79th Ordinary Session of the United Nations General Assembly
Date: 24th September 2024
On September 24, 2024, a significant delegation led by His Excellency President Adama Barrow gathered to represent The Gambia at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York City. This annual event is a crucial platform for world leaders to come together, assess progress, and enhance efforts towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations. These goals aim to address pressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and environmental degradation, promoting a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
During this year’s assembly, heads of state and government leaders from various countries engaged in vital discussions centered around the theme, “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.” This theme emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and collective action in fostering peace and sustainable development while ensuring that the needs of the most vulnerable populations are addressed.
President Barrow was accompanied by a distinguished group of cabinet ministers and high-level officials, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Minister of Information, the Secretary General, and other key advisors. Their participation reflects The Gambia's commitment to contributing to global dialogue and collaborative efforts aimed at addressing the challenges faced by nations and communities worldwide.
The discussions at the UNGA provide an opportunity for leaders like President Barrow to share insights, collaborate on initiatives, and forge partnerships that can drive progress towards achieving the SDGs. As global citizens look towards a future that upholds peace, sustainability, and dignity, The Gambia’s active involvement in such discussions is pivotal in shaping policies that resonate with the aspirations of its people and the broader international community.
